Mark Wakeham

Mark is an experienced CEO and strategic leader driven by one obsession: achieving meaningful, measurable impact for good. He’s worked for over two decades at the intersection of sustainability, social justice and systems change, helping to shape some of Australia’s most consequential environmental and climate victories. Mark founded Strategy Partner Advisory in 2025 to assist organisations work through their toughest strategic challenges and find the largest opportunities. 

 

Previously he has worked as the Australian Program Director for The Sunrise Project; as Senior Advisor on Climate, Energy and Just Transitions for the Australian Council of Trade Unions; and as CEO and Campaigns Director at Environment Victoria for over a decade.

 

He is a current Board Member of Sustainability Victoria, the Climate Council and the Energy and Water Ombudsman of Victoria, and a previous Board member of the Reichstein Foundation and Board Member and Chair of The Sunrise Project. He is a Churchill Fellow, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a very part-time drummer.

Dr Nick Aberle

Nick is an experienced strategist, advocate and analyst, operating at the intersection of policy, politics, public engagement and media narrative, with particular expertise in energy, climate and environmental issues.

 

Over the past 15 years, he has established a track record of achieving regulatory and policy change, implemented through campaign and advocacy strategies that combine government and stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, strategic public communications and people power.

He has been the Clean Energy Council’s General Manager of Strategy, Campaigns & Engagement and Policy Director for Energy Generation & Storage. In this time, he led a large and complex portfolio of policy and advocacy work relating to the development of large-scale renewable energy projects. 

 

Prior to joining the CEC, he was Campaigns Manager at Environment Victoria, and in a former life as a research scientist, he earned a PhD in organic chemistry and chemical biology, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University.

Tooni Mahto​

​Tooni is a strategic leader with 15 years’ experience across the environment movement, specialising in the design and delivery of high-impact campaigns.

 

Tooni has led the strategic direction and implementation of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, working closely with civil society, partners, and funders to deliver outcomes.

 

Her background includes senior advocacy roles including leading the Australian Marine Conservation Society's Australian campaigns; and international storytelling and communications with the BBC.

 

She specialises in bringing together strategic discipline, compelling narrative and a focus on translating values into effective action, designing campaigns that mobilise resources and deliver durable outcomes for nature.
